High Court lifts ban on Kaavalan

High Court lifts ban on Kaavalan

The Chennai High Court has lifted the ban imposed on the film ‘Kaavalan’, which is actor Vijay’s upcoming film to be released on the eve of Christmas next month. The film would be the third with the Vijay & Asin combination and is expected to do well just like their earlier films together in ‘Sivakasi’ and ‘Pokkiri’.

Director Siddique, who directed Vijay (and Suriya too) in the 2000 hit film ‘Friends’, returns back after almost a decade to direct Vijay again for ‘Kaavalan’, which is a remake of the Malayalam hit film ‘Bodyguard’ (directed by Siddique again) starring Dileep & Nayantara in the lead.

Film distributor Saravan, who had acquired the release rights of ‘Kaavalan’ abroad, had filed a writ in the Court seeking a ban on the release of the film on the grounds that he was ‘unduly’ denied acquiring the ‘colour lab’ contract for the film. The Court had imposed an interim ban on the film pending final disposal of the case.

Meanwhile, Ramesh babu (the producer of ‘Kaavalan’) and producer-director Shakti Chidambaram (joint producer of the film under his ‘Cinema Paradise’ banner) got down to the negotiating table and managed to iron out an out-of Court settlement wherein they assured Saravanan that they would indeed by giving him the ‘colour lab’ contract of the film.

After Saravanan informed the Court of the informal agreement he had entered into with the producers, Mr. Justice Rajeshwar issued an Order vacating the interim ban that had been imposed on the release of ‘Kaavanlan’.
