Shamita Shetty took a cue from sister Shilpa’s success in Bollywood when she decided to take up acting.
Hot Bollywood actress Shamita Shetty was born on born 2ndFebruary, 1979 in Mangalore. She is the younger sister of the famous Indian actress and 'Celebrity Big Brother' winner Shilpa Shetty.
Shamita is the second and youngest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty. Her parents are into manufacturing. They make tamper proof caps for a pharmaceutical company.
She completed her studies from St.Anthony’s Girl’s High School in Chembur, Mumbai and graduated from Sydenham College. Additionally, she has studied fashion design from SNDT.

Shamita Shetty always admired her famous sister Shilpa and wanted to follow in her footsteps. They worked together once in the film Fareb (2005).
Shamita made her debut in 2000 with the Yash Raj Films blockbuster Mohabbatein, which was directed by Aditya Chopra. Her co-star in the movie was Uday Chopra whom she later dated for a short period of time. The movie was produced by one of the greatest Indian producers, Yash Chopra. The film was based on the love stories of six youths who find their guide in the form of Shah Rukh Khan. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, who played a sort of non-believer of love. The film was a super hit and soon Shamita Shetty became famous and lot of new movie offers came her way.
When interesting leads roles didn't come her way, Shamita went on to sizzle in item numbers. Shamita became very famous for the item song in the movie 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai'. She is regarded as one of the hot young actresses in Indian Cinema and often referred to as the 'Item Girl'.
The term ‘item girl’ has been tagged with Shamita after her famous super hit item songs "Sharara" in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and "Chori Pe Chori" in Saathiya (2002). Soon after her popularity rose following the super success of her item songs and soon she began to get roles which would showcase her acting ability, such as Wajahh and Bewafaa in which she played negative roles.
Her best performance till date has been in the 2005 hit Zeher, further enhancing her career in Bollywood. She also went on to star in the film Fareb with her sister, which was an avergae grosser at the box-office.
Ever since she stepped into Bollywood, controversies have been a part of Shamita's career. Her most famous controversy till date came in the year 2007. Soon after her older sister Shilpa Shetty won the British realty show 'Celebrity Big Brother', Shamita Shetty was dragged into the spotlight after a photographer captured pictures of her appearing without panties at a huge Bollywood event. This incident caused quite a stir in the film industry and many people felt Shamita was trying to imitate famous pop star Britney Spears, who around the same time was seen partying without panties at Hollywood parties. The incident gained international popularity as she was being projected as the younger sister of the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ realty show winner.
She was dated with her co-star Uday Chopra during the period of her debut film shooting ‘Mohabbatein’.Later they were separated. After that she was going out with actor Aftab Shivdasani.
Apart from being seen in Bollywood films, she also appeared in Tollywood and Kollywood movies too.She looked South and landed a role in Naan Aval Adhu with heartthrob Madhavan.
