The unforgotten 'kamasutra' girl: Pooja Bedi's biography



    Pooja Bedi was born on 11th May 1971 in Mumbai. She was brought up very unconventionally and literally allowed to have her own way as a child. It was for this reason that she initially abstained from cigarettes and alcohol.


    She has a Buddhist name Karma Saraswati given to her by the Karmapa, a Hindu name Pooja and a Sikh name Bedi. She also has a Muslim name Noorjehan post marriage to Farhan Furniturewalla.

    Pooja Bedi is perfect in her figure and 5 ft 7 1/2 inches of height. Most of the people know her for her sexy look and her hot dresses. She became famous when she advertised for a Kama Sutra condom campaign which was certified and used to create awareness of AIDS in the minds of the people.

    Her father is a International film star, Kabir Bedi and her mother was Protima but a tragedy occurred were she lost her mother in a landslide during her pilgrimage in Himalayas. Her brother who was 26 year old committed suicide.

    She received her basic education at Besant Montessori in Mumbai and later the acclaimed Lawrence School, Sanawar. She was part of the debating team, hockey team, basket ball team and swimming team. She was an exceptionally bright student and had the privilege of signing the School Book of Honour.


    She starred in Bollywood movies from 1991 through to 1995, as well as featured in a host of commercials and acclaimed campaigns such as tips and toes, Frooti, and the controversial Kamasutra condom campaign She actively campaigns for HIV/ AIDS awareness through celebrity appearances, in print and electronic media, through music videos (BBC and Levi Strauss sponsored)and fund raising events. Other causes supported include Breast cancer awareness, Street children, World vision of India, cry, and Poverty housing with Habitat for Humanity.

    Pooja made her film debut with Jag Mundhra's 1991 film Vishkanya. She went on act in her most popular film to date, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992) with Aamir Khan, and appeared in a few more films such as Lootere (1993) and Aatank Hi Aatank (1995).


    She also starred in Tollywood movies. She acted in Mohan Babu's "Chittemma Mogudu" and Jr. NTR's "Shakti"as a supporting actress.

    Pooja interviewed Big B Mr Amitabh Bacchan for the show Amul India. He was exposed so much that it forced him to walk away from the T.V show Kaun Banega Crorepati though she did not question anything regarding their personal life or previous life.

    She published her late mothers memoirs "timepass" with Penguin Books, India and it was on the national top 10 best seller list. Her opinionated thoughts have lent to articles and columns in publications such as Times of India, Hindustan Times, Midday, L'officiel, Marie Claire, The Week etc where she has addressed issues of social and national concern.


    She featured on a reality show, Jhalak Dikhlaja on Sony TV 2006, and developed a love for Latin American ballroom dance. She now performs shows all over the world at events and award ceremonies.

    She is also a TV host for 'Not Just Page 3", and 'Just Pooja" on Zoom Tv as well as also brand ambassador of Allergan India, and Country Club India Limited,

    Pooja Bedi married, Farhan Ebrahim, her boyfriend. She met him in 1990 and married him in 1994. She gave birth to Aalia and Omar in 1997 and 2000 respectively. She got divorced in 2002.

    She loves water sports, chess,reading and travelling.
